Part of my 'Things To Do With Yesterday's Paper' series.
Media: Pen and ink, soft pastels, collage, digital.
yw! I *might* have interest in writing something for this. See my profile for examples. Would you mind?
The fusion of digital and traditional media, as well as the newspaper texture used on the butterflies is pretty interesting here!
Thank you. It was very experimental. The background was done with soft pastels, for instance, which I then scanned and played around with digitally. The blades of grass were drawn with coloured pens and I repeated the pattern on Photoshop. It's a real mixture of traditional and modern techniques, and it worked out well. (I hope).
Oh, how nice! I do specially like the contrast between the saturated green/blue tones, and the monochrome cat and butterflies.
Its look cute !!
Amazing work as always. I can see parts of kitty on the butterfly wings.
Ha ha. Well spotted. Yes, I designed the newspapers especially.
Oh, I'm glad I noticed that I thought it was a great detail. I like to look closely at all the amazing details in your work. How did you come up with the idea to use newspaper print as a design? I see it in a lot of your work and I find it very interesting. It would be funny if you put in some news print that had actual writing on it. I would be trying to read it
I came up with the idea a couple of years ago. I have three cats and I noticed how much they enjoyed (or were fascinated by) sheets of newspaper. They sleep on it, they scratch it and they sometimes dive under it. I started to wonder why they were so entranced by sheets of old newspaper and came up with the rather daft idea that they enjoyed making origami sculptures out of it. I began to scribble some ideas into a sketchbook and then turned it into a project. It's been very popular on sites such as Redbubble and Fine Art America.
It really is unique and yes my kitty Annikah loves to lay on newspaper. Do you have an artwork of this kitty doing origami? That would be really cute. I had a cat book with photos of cats and their artwork. Some of the artwork was a chair they had scratched to shreds and it was called the shabby chic look or something like that. It was very whimsical and funny.
Amazing concept. I love the newspaper butterflies.
If this was my mum's cats they'd have more butterflies in their mouth than in the air I love how baffled the poor little guy looks
Yes, my cat, Caspar, is an excellent insect catcher. It's amazing watching him leap into the air to catch flies and moths. I wish he'd leave the butterflies alone, though. I like butterflies.
Awesome work Andy love this one as well. I love how he is looking up at the butterflies
I did a version of him looking cross-eyed. I really liked it, but it made the picture very comical.
I hope he doesn't let the news bug him.
